As the recent purchaser of a 1986 900S (my first Saab!), I can't say enough
good things about newsgroups. I hope they won't fail me now...

The car seems to have been very well taken care of and only has 94,000
miles on it, but because it wasn't driven very hard/often I'm wondering if
certain parts which normally go sooner are only failing now. The problem
is as follows;

When I start the car cold, it idles fine around 900 RPM. After about 5-10
minutes of warming up however (when the thermostat opens?), it starts to
hunt. This normally is not bad enough to cause a stall. What does
sometimes cause a stall is pushing down the throttle in N, 1st, or 2nd
(5-speed) and then releasing it. The RPM will drop to about 500 (or lower,
causing a stall) and if it doesn't stall, the RPM will then return to
around 900-1000 and will stabilize somewhat (although still hunting as when
it first warms up). Is this a common symptom of the AIC valve, the AMM, or
something else related to how quickly the throttle closes? The fact that
it doesn't happen all the time (when the car is cold) seems to rule out
problems w/sparks, wires, or vacuum leaks doesn't it? I'd like this to be
the start of a good working relationship w/my car and any ideas you
experienced folk have to keep me from the mechanic would be greatly
appreciated.
