Doors Frozen Shut

Im having some serious access problems with my 89 9000 cdt

The ice is forming overnight between the roof line and the top edge
of the doors as they 'fold over' to meet the roof. There is on all 4
sides of the car a small gap where you can see the black rubbery foam
stuff. I believe moisture is also seeping under that rolled edge so
increasing the ice bond

The seal is so tight that my wife cannot open the car door in the
morning. It takes me both hands and some serious yanking. This
morning I was worried that the door handle would break before the ice
seal did:-(

Now this is not Siberia, this is a London suburb. These cars are
surely designed to handle far lower temperatures than this?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am seriously concerned that the
wife will get stranded or that I will break the door handle doing
this amount of massive tugging

Obviously there are heat methods, but heat is not always available.

Nick
