Freezing Antenna

Now that it's cold (`3 degrees f), my antenna on my 89 9kcdT is again not
going all the way down when I arrive at work. I used to pull the fuse (with
a small resulting spark), but now am older, but even more lazy and
risk-taking. This morning the antenna made it down to the last section
before quitting, and I tried pushing it the rest of the way, and it
'quivered' for a bit like the motor was trying and then quit (never could
push the last section down). Still had electric at end of 8hr day. It
'clicks' a couple more times when it's frozen. Tried some dry motorcycle
cable lube on the thing last summer, apparently didn't help. Is this thing
draining the battery, or does it have enough sense to know it's a useless
endeavor and stop trying? Should I go back to pulling the fuse or just cut
the wire and leave it up? Or trust its own intelligence?

Also, how do I change the autotragic fluid and filter? Dealer job?
Transmission places around here want nothing to do with it.

PS: to the guy with the faulty low-beams: had the same scary situation,
except I had to HOLD the high beams on to work, but changed the front bulbs
and haven't had the problem since. Which obviously didn't work for you, but
these are mysterious thngs. Complex electrics, but better than Lucas ;-) ?

Thanks again, Tom
89 9kcdT still going strong, but trying to baby the second autotrajic.
