I changed the heater valve on my daughter's 88 900 with A/T a year or so ago
and didn't have to do anything with the throttle pedal. I did find that
removing the heater core and valve together as a unit seemed a bit easier
then just removing the heater valve (which I'd done on a couple other 900's).
It made getting to those screwws that hold the valve to the core a whole lot
easier.
