You are likely better off...in terms of your time spent, headaches gotten,
and maybe even money spent...to take the car up to Andrews in Princeton, MN
(an independent Saab repair garage) and have them look it over and fix it.
Lots of things could cause it to quit. You'll need to test/check them when
they have quit and many can't easily be tested without having a 'known good
one' to try.

That said, you said it chokes and quits. That kinda implies the engine is
flooding with to much fuel, which seems unlikely. If so i would think it
would foul the plugs and not restart in 10 minutes. To much fuel would
likely cause the catalytic converter to overheat and therefore stink ...is
the smell you notice a burned smell or the sulfur smell that comes from a
wrong fuel mixture? The converter can plug up, as can the mufflers (from
breaking up internally and rusty particals bunching up and not being able to
get blown out).

Take a friend along to help determine the general cause of it quiting. Is
there a good spark when you crank engine over after it has quit
(careful...the voltage is very high!!), And listen in the trunk area to hear
if the fuel pump starts and runs when you crank the engine over (pull up the
trunk floor board to hear better). Of course it might run but not put out
any pressure!
