If I were closer to my regular shop I'd already have taken my 88 9000S
in to diagnose this: I have a 'clunk' with groan when I change from
any reasonably firm deceleration to acceleration and vice versa. I
cannot wiggle either wheel with the tires off the ground. The bolts on
the bearing carrier that fix it to the strut are tight. The brake
calipers are not at all loose when tested by hand. The car has 236,000
miles -- but all bushings and ball joints were replaced between 150,000
and 170,000 miles. The timing chain end motor mounts (2 lower, 1 upper)
were replaced in the last 70,000 miles. This leaves the the
transmission end mount, steering rack flex (?), Strut top bearings, and
what else?

Any advice on what to check would be great. Direct responses would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance!
