I had this happen on my brand new 9000CS (1994). When I backed up, I heard
a 'clunk' or two. The dealer tightened the bolts that mount the lower front
suspension arms to the body, and the problem went away.

My condolences about the accident. The only consolation I can offer is that
the damn 740i driver has twice your monthly payments, twice your insurance
payments, and less interior room to boot.
