I can't provide any info on '93 vs. '96 or 900 vs. 9000. However, on the
basis of my experience with a '97 900S, I would definitely recommend the 4
cylinder over the 6. I test drove a '97 turbo but for most driving I
didn't find much of a difference - power or handling. The regular 2.3 four
(150hp) even with an auto (like mine) has sufficient power - including at
highway passing speeds. You just downshift and the car leaps away. I can
accelerate from 90 or 100 kph to 140 kph or so in a flash. If you opt for
the 4, then the car won't have TCS. I have little to no problem without
it. The 4 handles better than the 6 since the front is lighter - the car
feels very nimble. The auto shifts very well and downshifts promptly for
passing. The regular mode is usually fine but sport mode is best for
passing. Either 900s or SE will come loaded -a/c, cruise, power windows.
alarm, central, power locks, ABS, airbags, heated front seats, etc. The
sunroof sometimes creaks a bit but it is fun.

One final warning, it seems like the quality of the n/g 900 improved each
year after '94. Mind you my '97 has been a nightmare but it seems that
this is not typical.

Good luck with your shopping

Richard
