I would recommend doing that. Last summer we were returning from visiting
friends in Toronto and Montreal. We left our friend's house in Morin
Heights, which is near Saint-Saveur in the foothills of the Laurentian
Mountains north of Montreal. Heading south on autoroute 15, we passed the
now-closed GM Camaro/Firebird plant in Ste-Therese then drove through the
city. There was a traffic backup on the Pont Champlain (the Pont St-Laurent
was closed that weekend for rework so all the traffic was on this other
bridge). The engine started to heat. By the time we got across to the South
Shore the gauge was all the way on high. I pulled off to find an engine
doing an Old Faithful imitation, and the expansion tank melted. We got it
towed to Saturn-Saab-Isuzu Brossard. A couple days later they pronounced it:
'Votre moteur est mort.' True, the car was over 14 years old (1988 900T)
and the engine had never been opened up. So we took the train home and went
to our local shop in Maryland and bought a 1999 9-5 SE off lease. Wonderful
car.

Keeping your engine cool is always a good idea.
