>I love my 9000 T , because i like to think it is part Alfa, somewhere under there (or at
least my extremely safe car has design elements from a wonderful company like Alfa)...but is
it fair to say that the 164 likewise has design elements of the SAAB ? WHat i want to know
: IS the 164 as structurally strong as a 9000 in safety terms ?

I can't tell you if the Alfa is equally strong but I seriously doubt it.
I worked as an Engineer at SAAB between 89-94, not with structure, but
it was a well known fact that there was a lot of reinforcements added to
the platform to meet SAABs rigorous safety standards.

> I believe the new 9-3 is based on the Opel Vectra, and the 9-5 on the Opel Omega? Does
anyone know if this is true?

I know for a fact that the 9-3 is based on the Vectra but I am not quite
sure if the Omega is the platform for the 9-5. Definitely an Opel
platform. Also on these platforms, major reinforcements are added.

SAAB is a small player in the big league of auto makers. Sharing a
platform is definitely a cost savings even if you have to add
reinforcements to meet your standards.
