It's funny... When I worked at a tire shop we did it the same way... and I
still do. Yet if I go to Sears, they go by the car's recommended tire
pressures. I'll get my car back, and they'll have the tires at under 30 psi
(not a Saab). They drive the car out, and the tires look half flat, and it
squeals like a pig around turns.

If the tires are rated for 36 psi, I put 'em at 32psi... if they are rated
for 44psi, they go to 41psi. When I autocrossed my car I bumped them up to
over 50 psi.

Someone else out there may be able to explain why they do this, I can't. I
can just say that it's common practice, he wasn't insane.
