Markus,

It is also possible that the receiver/drier unit (that lives in front of the
crank pulley on your '92) is not in the best shape, and should be replaced.
You probably realize that replacing the receiver/drier, PRV, or the
expansion valve block means that the regrigerant must first be evacuated
from the system. All three are relatively cheap parts, and if you want to
enjoy a reliable A/C system this summer it would be adviseable to replace
them. Here in the USA, we have the following prices:

1. Aftermarket receiver drier: $51 (OEM SAAB list $155)
2. Aftermarket expansion valve block: $33 (OEM SAAB list $160)
3. OEM SAAB PRV (probably sourced from Sanden): $?? Can't find a price
right now, but should be cheaper than both 1. and 2..

An experienced A/C repair technician should be able to charge the system
with refrigerant until the *correct* high and low pressures are observed.

Best regards,

David Prantl
