I have had a whine coming from the final drive bearings for the 40kkms I have
owned the car. It has not gotten worse so I have let it be. I believe the
gearbox has been rebuilt at some point (telling from sulphur smell it had the
final drive oil in until I replaced it with 10W-40) and the tension of the
bearings is not set correctly causing the gear teeth to have a slightly false
contact condition and causing noise. The noise varies with ambient
temperature and sometimes it's almost non-existent.

I also have difficulties changing to second and first gears, this I believe
is caused by worn sychros. Only effective repair is replacing the synchro
rings.
