I whacked a 3 point buck somewhere south of 35mph in my '93 9000 CSE =
last year and it was nearly totaled!! It busted the turn signal, pushed =
in the grill, crinkled the driver's side fender and put a dent in the =
hood. The airbag deployed and the seatbelts fired which was scarier than =
hitting the deer. I drove the car another hour and a half home and took =
it to the dealer for repair. My friend's comment was 'Is that all?' when =
I showed it to him. He thought the carnage would have been greater. Six =
weeks and $9000 (you read that right folks!!!) later, I got my car back. =
Seems that those year 9K's require replacement of nearly all SRS and =
seatbelt components when airbag deployment occurs. Here's a list:
Front passenger seatbelts
Steering wheel
Steering column
Airbag control module
Airbag
All airbag sensors
then:
Headlight
Grille
Headlight wiper
Headlight wiper motor
Fender
Hood
Turn indicator

Moral of the story: If the airbag goes off in a '93, It's going to cost =
at least $6000 to fix the car by the book. Most insurance companies =
don't have the proper information to do a correct estimate on that car =
so make sure they are quoted the relevant sections from the service =
manual. After that, start shopping for a new car because you just =
totaled yours!
