Brakelight Failure

I have not owned a NG900, but my 9000 cars have a bulb-failure-warning
system of sorts. A light will illuminate in the pictogram area of the
instrument panel when the car 'thinks' a bulb is out.

Inevitably, the 'thinking' was not quite perfected when the 9000 model was
first introduced in 1985, so it is quite tricky to keep the warning lights
from going off. The system is triggered by a resistance differential of a
certain magnitude between the left and right taillight circuits. The bulbs,
live wires and ground connections are all part of the circuit, so any
left/right resistance discrepancy in a brake-light live wire, ground
wire/connection or bulb filament will make the car 'think' it has a bad
brake light bulb.

If the NG900 system works on a similar principle, it is possible that the
old bulb on one side is sufficiently different from the new bulb on the
other side to cause the warning. Using identical bulbs on both sides often
solves the 9000 problem, and may solve yours too. If not, the next step on
9000s is to trace taillight ground wiring, and/or look into service
bulletins on some of the early cars.

Then again, the NG900 may be sophisticated enough to require a dealer-reset
using the TechII interface tool.

Best regards,
