I was shocked to find that a replacement fog light (from the dealer) for my 
1999 9-3 costs $145.  (That's U.S. dollars, not pesos.) I have tried to 
imagine all the reasons a part for which I expected to pay $50 actually 
costs three times that amount.  Here's my list so far:

1) Low volume- Since Saab produces a relatively small volume of cars 
compared to other manufactuers, it follows that a smaller number of 
replacement parts are produced, thus increasing the unit cost.

2) Cost of importation-  According to the box, the fog light was 
manufactured in Belgium.  Obviously, it costs more to ship it to the U.S 
than if it were made in this country.  Also, I assume that imported auto 
parts are subject to one or more import duties.

That's all I could think of.  Anyone able to offer any other factors?  Is it 
as simple as there is only one source for these parts so we get screwed?  
Thoughts and comments appreciated.
