I'm not positive you have the same switches, but in mine ('91 900) the 
black plastic plunger that hits the pedal lever self-adjusts. There are 
plastic ribs molded into the outside of the plunger, that mate with 
internal ribs in the switch mechanism. You can remove the switch or depress 
the pedal, and pull the plunger all the way out. When the switch and pedal 
go back into position, the plunger ratchets back into the switch body to 
the correct position.

The metal bracket that holds my switch is also adjustable, though the 
single bolt is not exactly easy to reach or work with. And mine holds more 
than one switch (I forget exactly which ones) so adjusting the bracket is 
tricky.
