Brakes Failed Diagnosis

I'm 10,000 miles from a Saab dealer, and local mechanics often use the
'well let's just start changing parts here, and see how long it takes to
fix it' approach.

So I'm trying to arm myself in advance.

I had a couple of new tires put on my 85 900T, and noticed afterwards a
clicking sound inside the cabin down around the pedal each time I braked.

About two weeks later, I noticed at a stop light that as I waited with
my foot on the brake the pedal would slowly slip down towards the firewall.

Then it got worse, and I could feel the pedal get soft almost as soon as
it 'grabbed.'

Now, after another week of progressive worsening, the pedal goes plumb
to the floor, although I notice I still have stopping power even at that
level.

Could one of you 'old hands' comment on this? No fluid is being lost,
btw, so I suspect either the master cylinder or the booster, with the
cylinder being the more likely.

Thanks in advance.

B.
