Idle Speed Adjustment

Now that winter is finally here and the temp is dipping down below freezing
(I live in SE Idaho), I've had to do something about the idle speed on our
Classic 900T. Our Chilton (I know, I should get a Bentley but, we can't
afford the $50-$60 to buy one) says to set the idle at 875 +/- 50 rpm - the
problem with this is that when the seat heaters and engine fan kick on, it
drags the idle down so far, the car dies. This is not good, especially
since it's my wife that drives the car and she doesn't want to have to
'power-throttle' the car while manipulating the brakes (it's hard enough
for me to get her to be kind to the transmission but, she is getting
better...).

Tonight, I boosted the idle up by ear and have it set where when the seat
heaters and engine fan are running simultaneously, the idle sits right at
1000 rpm. Idaho doesn't yet require emissions testing yet so, CO levels
aren't really an issue here but, I am concerned about any other problems
that may arise from having the idle set higher - especially the high idle
when the engine is cold.

We've been good about keeping the oil changed and the oil level is good.
Is there anything else we should be keeping an eye on? Is it okay to run
the car at the higher idle?

Thanks in advance,
Terry Warren
