Other than trading it in on a newer model - no.

The so-called 'ACC-II' (which is easily distinguished from the original by
its 'off' button) can be programmed to start up in any setting, but the
original defaults to 'auto' whenever the power is cycled. As if to add
insult to injury, the ACCII also has a time delay built into it so that for
brief shutdowns, it doesn't even revert back to its programmed default, but
maintains its current state. (around a minute or so).

Just get in the habit of pushing the 'econ' and the 'speed - low' buttons
every time you start it....
