You most likely have thought of this, but...
I suggest a pair of vise grips, or the ones that sears sells that have
part of a hex pattern in the jaw. Hmm but this won't help you if the
shank of the plug is 'welded' into the case/pan.
Does your 9-3 make use of the copper washer on the drain plug? If not,
perhaps it should.

I had this problem on my 91-9000cd. It was greatly reduced when the
washer was used.

Another famous 'saab-ism' ...ranks right up there with having to use a
'brake tool', the 'water pump tool' for 99's, and my absolute
favorite....the screws to hold the disks in 80-83 900's....
