Fuel Starvation Turbo Boost

85 900. My mechanic is at his wit's end on this, and because I don't have a
car, I'm sort of at my wit's end too. The fellow is not apparently very
Saab-literate (I'm out in Podunk) but has a nice array of test equipment
and seems pretty knowledgeable.

We had an acceleration stuttering problem that he diagnosed as the air mass
meter, and we got one and installed it. I'm going to include more-or-less
verbatim his explanation of what happened next, and hopefully it will ring
a bell out there with someone. He doesn't know what to try next, and I
know even less than he does:

'The air mass meter fixed the major part of the acceleration problem, which
was previously severe even at very low speeds. Now, however, acceleration
still cuts out at something like 50MPH, and once that speed is reached it
is about as bad as it was previously at all speeds.

If I remove the turbo tubes and hook the air mass meter up directly to the
throttle body, however, there is perfect (although vastly reduced)
acceleration at all speeds, and the car will reach speeds well beyond
normal cruising without any problem.

So it seems like it must be a fuel starvation or spark advance problem
related only to the use of the turbo at higher speeds?'

There's what I know. I'd sure be grateful if anyone could provide us any
pointers.

Thanks in advance.

B.
