Have a look at the procedure given in the Haynes-UK 9000 service manual:

It's pretty complete.

Removing the right front wheel and the plastic splash panel is not really
optional.

You must remove the *floating* pulley, and the bolt securing it is
reverse-threaded (clockwise-to-loosen).

Don't try doing this job without an appropriate holding tool.
