Rough Idle & Boost

Just noticed this problem yesterday, and I thought I would hit the =
wisdom of the web with it.

I have a 1988 9000 CDE 2.0T, with 116,000 miles

My car has really started to idle funny..

Sat in the car at idle you can feel the engine slightly hunting, through =
the back of your chair. It is quite a slow oscillation, if you look at =
the rev needle, you can just about see it moving up and down slightly.

If you go round to the back of the car and listen to the exhaust you can =
hear it throbbing away as per usual, and then all of a sudden you hear =
is sort of cough, this cough happens once every 20-30 =
seconds.............

I have taken all the breather pipes of the car and cleaned them all, =
refitted them and checked they were secure, but upon starting the engine =
and letting it idle, the symptoms where still present.

Also, sometimes when I take my car out of 'D' and put it into 'P', the =
engine stalls, this only happens very rarely though.

I've had a different air mass meter fitted, but this did not help.

Could I possibly have a problem with my Injection computer ?????, or =
could it be my DI pack, I say this because first thing in the morning =
the engine will not let me rev, I'm told this is because my DI pack is =
on the way out.

Any help is really appreciated

I have another problem, I thought I had solved this some time ago, but = it
has reared its head again. Problem, my boost needle, rises up to the red
zone, and then quickly = moves back to about 2/3 into the orange. I have
tried a few different things, but as a test I went out and bought = a
manual, pressure bleed valve. When I fitted it I was astonished to watch my
needle do exactly the same = thing. I don't think this is normal.

So my question to you is. I thought it was my APC picking up pink etc, = but
apparently it is not, because the manual valve does exactly the same =
thing.

What the hell is causing this pressure loss. I've checked the pipes and =
they seem secure?

This problem first reared its head in November, above 4000 revs the = boost
was dumped and only base boost was given, over a few days this = symptom
improved and 5 days later the car was boosting good again, = however I was
left with an acute overboost problem, the needle would = rise slightly into
the red, and then drop back to the red / orange = border line, a few months
after, I started suffering from the needle = rising to the red, then
dropping to about 2/3 of the orange, and this is = how it still is. dispite
the following.

-1 new apc
-2 new knock detector
-3 fiddling with wasegate (garage)
-4 new head gasket
-5 new apc valve
-6 new air mass meter.

Has anyone got any clues
