I've just fixed a similar problem on my '88 900T. My throttle dashpot was
worn, which allowed the throttle to close suddenly. Occasionally the
engine stopped. I'd like to say I installed a new dashpot and everything
is fine, but... International Motors wanted $56 for a new one, so I hunted
through my fleet for a better dashpot. Found one on an '82 900 auotmatic.
Since the swap, the rpm on my '88 900T will slowly come down to idle when I
close the throttle. Most of the time the idle is steady. Occasionally the
rpms drop below normal idle rpm, but the engine has yet to stall since the
fix.

I may still have a problem. Time has a way of revealing all.
