I have done this with good success. The main issue is whether or not you can
hone the bore so that it is clear and free of any pits or longitudinal
scratches. I believe that the bore is 5/8, which is an issue because most of
the small cylinder hones on the shelves of the auto parts stores will not
fit.

Another alternative is to send the cylinder to White Post Restorations to be
overbored and sleeved with a brass lining. Not any less expensive than a new
one, but they offer a lifetime warranty.
