Rust Repair

My -92 9kCS has developed some rust at the bottom edge of the doors. As
a first step I have removed the rubber parts a while back. In a couple
of weeks I will treat the areas with POR15 rust treating paint. I am
using the kit that comes with degreaser, etcher and the paint.
I have read a lot of articles mainly on the web. According to them the
dried paint is very hard and wear resistant. I am actually thinking of
re-installing the rubber parts to quieten the slightly increased road
noise. It seems like the reason why the doors started to rust in the
first place is the grinding action of trapped dirt and the rubbing
action of the seal when the door is opened/closed.
I have never used this paint before and would appreciate comments, will
this paint really keep the rust from returning !?

Regards,
Markus Jaervi
