If it's a Saab you want because you want the Saab's style, character,
utility, etc., then buy the best used you can find because that is the car
you want. If what you really need first is absolute reliability, there are
some other makes that have better established reliability and there are
other makes that have cheaper repair costs. Notably, Toyotas and Hondas
have bullet proof reputations for reliability. Their parts are more
expensive than some but I dare say Saabs parts may cost more. It has been
my own experience that when cared for, my GM cars have had mechanicals that
outlast the car bodies. E.g., 150,000 and no oil usage. For repairs,
domestic brands, especially GM and Ford, are going to be as a general rule
much cheaper for repair parts, access to parts and access to used parts
from junk yards. Knowing all this, I bought the Saab because I wanted it
for other reasons that are more intangible and knowing that repairs will
likely be very expensive.
