I´ve had this 'engine vibration' problem on my ´86 900i when I bought it,
too. Well, the car was in poor shape, not only that a tree had fallen on it
(ouch), the engine had lacked maintenace for several years. So sometimes it
would only start on three cylinders when cold! You can guess how that felt,
like an over-aged diesel. The problem was: Really old spark plugs (New
Bosch ones: 10 Bucks) and 'dirty' injection jets (Valve cleaner, 5 Bucks).
For safety, I replaced the ignition cables, and took a long trip on the
highway with the valve cleaner in my tank. After I had worked the whole
winter on the car´s body, of course... Problem has disappeared :-)
