Air Conditioning Clutch

I have a 1987 900S with about 125k miles The Air Conditioning clutch seems
to slip as it tries to engage at engine RPM's that are over 2500 RPM. In
town traffic the AC seems to do OK (with lower engine RPMs), but a brisk
back road or highway, I sometimes find myself compensating when I hear the
'hiss' of the AC clutch by disengaging the (transmission) clutch for an
instant, letting the RPM fall, and then re-engaging the clutch. This also
seems to correlate to the hottest days. I can guess that on the hotter
days, the pressure in the system is higher, so that the compressor has to
work harder. Does it sound like the clutch is getting worn out? And, if
so, does anyone know if I can obtain and change just the AC clutch on the
compressor? Best place to buy one? I've checked
http://www.townsendimports.com/,
but they describe replacing only the entire

compressor...

Thanks in advance,
Mike
