I hate to do this and respond, but, oh well, this is what makes the
Internet great.

#1. I like (some specific) American iron. Not just classics from the 1950's
and 1960's, but the mid to late 80's Ford Taurus SHO and Monte Carlo SS,
and even more recently, the early 1990's Impala SS (and any F-150 with the
strait 6 - great engine). Nice cars. I used to see them in traffic and
could see myself driving one. (Like the wolf in sheep's clothing thing -
pertaining to cars - no wise cracks please) Argue it if you like, but there
it is.

#2. I own two SAABs, a 1987 900 Turbo convertible and a 1994 900s. If I
had 35k I would put it down immediately on a yellow Viggan. If I was in
the market and could afford 25k, I would probably buy a 9-3. One of the
reasons I bought the 1994 900 is because its normally aspirated 2.3 liter 4
cylinder produced 150 horses, the same amount as the 3.6 liter V-6 that was
than being offered on the Ford Mustang (but that's a euro-american thing).

#3. Never liked the larger SAABs. Seemed (don't bust me on this one, just
personal opinion) somewhat underpowered and oversized. I once won a bet
with a furniture salesman when I put a queen size four poster canopy bed in
the 1994 900s and closed the trunk. I don't need a bigger car (and the
convertible, well, lets just say that I have done my effort in putting the
word sport back into the phrase sport utility vehicle. What that thing can
carry with the roof folded is scary.)

#4. So why am I commenting? My personal opinion is that this list is for
SAAB related questions and information, not for a reason to switch brands.
A number of other SAAB owners own other makes and models, yet they still
favor, to some degree, their SAAB. Maybe SAABs last longer because the
median educational demographic of SAAB owners is higher than that of the
Hyundai owner and we (gasp) maintain our vehicles. Lets face the facts. It
enter make here) is a car. It (enter make here) is going to cost you
money. Period. Don't like that, well, invest in Nike.

My cars have a personality that I like, they have never left me stranded,
they do nothing great (but almost everything pretty well), and they have
yet to make me feel uncomfortable in a driving situation, regardless of
weather. I honestly have never lost control of my SAAB(s). Now one could
note here that I 'probably' drive like my 86 year old grandmother, but the
fact is that I am 30 (ok 31) and live in Italy. You do the math. If you
want to buy another make or model, more power to you. The US is a free
country, knock yourself out. But don't jump on a SAAB dedicated mailing
list and try to sell everyone as well. Try the Monte Carlo, or Lexus, or
X-car, or whatever mailing list for that. I would prefer to not read why
SAAB is evil or criminally stupid and their product bunk, I would prefer to
just get the answers to my questions that will help me understand my cars
better and keep them running.

Just my humble opinion. Shoot if you will, but make sure you don't miss.

Thomas T. 'Find your own goddamn road and stay the hell of mine' Garbelotti.
1987 SAAB 900 Turbo Convertible (128k, been driving daily since October
without power steering, busted mechanism on passenger side window, a faulty
ECU, and since December with a faulty brake booster - still pushes BMW's out
of the way on the Autostrada - and don't worry, parts have finally arrived,
should be taken care of within the next week or so)
1994 SAAB 900s 5 Door (56k, just replaced the serpentine belt and two idler
pulleys in driveway - original parts)
Belpasso, Catania, Italy. (Sicily)
