Radio Reception & H-4 Headlamps

I recently bought a 1995 SAAB 900S. Wonderful car in just about every way.
One way in which it's worse is in radio reception. I had an entry-level
Kenwood radio in my 1986 900, with a solid fiberglass antenna. Reception
on FM was pretty good, as was AM. The new car, however, has lots of FM
static and 'picket fencing' noise in town; and AM reception is horrible.
All I can pick up is a strong local AM, with a weaker local AM station
audible, but with lots of static and engine interference. I find using the
rear window defroster cuts down on the AM static somewhat. Weather band
reception is fine. My car has a power-retractable antenna. Are these
antennas also power-amplified? I think, if the antenna's amplified,
turning antenna amplification off might improve FM reception in town. Or
is there a local/distant function hidden in the radio? I think Saab should
have included an antenna-sensitivity control in the radio. Maybe Blaupunkt
should be making the radios rather than Clarion. In my humble opinion,
Blaupunkt radios are better at pulling in weak stations and attenuating
overpowering local FMs. The Saabs already have plenty of Robert Bosch
(Blaupunkt is a Bosch company) content, so there shouldn't be a problem
because of that.

I recently chipped a headlamp lens on my new (to me) NG900. I called
Aardvark International, they advertise in NINES, about H-4 headlamps for
the NG900. These are European-spec lamps made by Hella or Cibie, both of
which companies have reputations for excellent quality lighting products.
They do not have the electrically-operated beam levelers like Euro-market
cars. It sounds to me like they'd be a pretty easy installation. Perhaps
the H-4 lights require a different wiring connector at the headlamp. Does
anyone have experience with installing these H-4 lamps in a NG900?

Finally, does anyone know if there's a more proper way to disable DRLs than
removing the fuse? That's what I did, and it worked, except the low beams
are on when the headlamp switch is in the parking lamps position and the
ignition is on. Is there a relay that could be removed to allow the light
switch to operate normally?

Thanks in advance for any information you can spare.
