James, you don't mention if you've done the quick and easy test of the AMM,
which is to start the car, run it up to 1500 RPM, shut it off, then look
directly at the AMM wire. About 4 seconds after shutdown, it should glow
brightly for a second, then go off. That's a burnoff cycle it goes through
each time you shut it off to get rid of debris that might have collected on
it. If it doesn't light up, it's not working! If it's not working, the car
will still run, but it will be getting all of its information from the oxygen
sensor, which is after the fact, so to speak. If you're running steady
speeds, the computer will factor in that O2 sensor information and run fine,
but it won't handle changing conditions very well, since it has no idea what
the condition of the air coming in to the engine is.
