Both times that's happened to me with 900's, it's been worn alternator
brushes not making good contact at high speeds. They didn't do this
until they were *very* worn under spec, though. It may not be relevant
to your situation, but at least on the alternators on the 900's, it's
easy to check: the regulator assembly is trivial to unscrew from the
alternator (once you get at the alternator), and the brushes are
separately available as a SAAB (or Bosch) part.
