There are tons of parts that are interchangeable between the 1976-80 99's
and pre '85 900's, in fact many are the same parts.

SAAB basically carried the same suspension through this time with some
slight differences. For example you can bolt up 900 front and rear
suspension to your 76 and newer 99, minus front springs and shocks. You
will need to update the drive axles as well. As far as I knew the brake
calipers and mast cylinder are the same. In 1980 or so SAAB increased the
width of the front and rear axles. In 1979, SAAB changed the way the rear
shocks bolted to the axle.

With a bit of creativity, you can make some very interesting updates to
your 99.
