At the least, if you do the work, obtain the relevant Saab 'Engine' manual
section(s). I'm not sure what is meant by the balance shafts being worn,
since they are essentially one piece steel shafts. However, the drive
chain and sprockets or bearings could be worn. If it's the chains and
sprockets, don't delay too long, since when the balance shaft chain comes
apart, it usually takes the timing chain with it, and that results in a
crash in the upper engine between some valves and pistons.
