You're right, its not just a simple matter of swapping radios.

The amplifiers (and speaker wire terminus) are not where the radio is. (in
the '95-98 model, they're under the driver's seat. I'd guess that it's
also there for the '93, but that's a guess on my part.) In principle, you
could replace the radio head and (probably) connect it to the line level
outputs from the new unit. Absent a wiring diagram, you have some
experimentation on your hand to determine which wire connects to which
channel, and some wiring to get RCA plugs on the ends of the appropriate
wires. Your alternative is to extend the existing speaker wires (or
replace them with new ones that extend) to the back end of the new radio
and use its power amp. In either case, step 1 is to remove the radio from
its housing, and step 2 is to remove the housing from the DIN opening. The
new radio comes with a housing that fits into the DIN slot, and the radio
slides into that.

At least, the dash top and console side panels come off pretty easily,
giving you pretty good access, or you can play gynecologist and do it all
through the radio opening in the dash.
