Borg-Warner 37 Automatic Transmission

My daughter's school car is an '87 900S 16-valve with the Borg-Warner 37
3-speed automatic transmission. The car is in excellent condition overall,
including the engine. The transmission shifts smoothly and seems basically
OK considering there is 125K on the clock.

The only transmission problem I've detected is a strange one: when making a
'sweeping' left hand turn from either stopped at a light or at slow speeds
while in first gear, the transmission seems to shift to a higher gear or is
slipping. It almost seems or feels like it's 'kicking down' into passing
gear. I'll have to look at the tach the next time this occurs.

This anomoly occurs on left turns 'only.' I've double checked the ATF fluid
level - is it possible that the transmission throttle cable needs to be
adjusted? Or, is this a harbinger of expensive work to come? Any ideas
would be appreciated.

Tnx,
Don Allen
