Cruise Control

A friend at work has a 1997 Aero. His cruise control is not operating. It
won't set a speed. I am familiar with older 9000 units (I had an '88 9000S).
Recent threads discussed the middle year 9000's which used a throttle-by-wire
and included cruise / TCS in the engine management computer. I understood
from this thread that the '97 and '98 9000's had a different scheme. My
question is, what did the cruise control go to ? something vacuum operated ?
other ??

When I had cruise problems on my '88 it was a fatigued wire in the
combination cruise, light, signal switch. Much later a clutch pedal switch
broke. Any thoughts on troubleshooting the 1997 unit would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark Mueller
