Don't pull the dash -- yet!

It may be as simple as the rod between the dial and the valve having slipped
off. You can gain some access through the speaker grille on the driver's
side. Take out the speaker and possibly the top defroster hose, and see if
you can trace it to the valve below and to the front-left of the speaker.

If you can hook it up again, good!

Otherwise you might find the valve is toast (common) and needs replacing.
It's a 3- to 4-hour job that's a little messy and requires some contortions
via the speaker hole and the kneepad- and heater-duct-removal access routes.
