The outer bearing is contained in the oil seal housing. It is a standard
SKF bearing, and should be obtainable for about twenty bucks. SAAB part
number is 87 04 306.

When you remove the housing/inner-driver-cup, don't lose the spring and
plunger that are in the inside end of the driver-shaft.

The housing contains a lip-seal around the driver-shaft (87 31 804), mounts
to the gearbox with an o-ring (87 16 656), and retains the bearing with a
snap-ring (87 28 198).

If the inner bearings (differential support) are good, then you should be
looking at a pretty easy and cheap repair !

I would strongly suggest the purchase of the appropriate section of the SAAB
service manual. It should be cheaper than the Haynes, and will tell you
everything you could possibly want to know about this transmission - with
beautiful illustrations.

Section 4:1 (9000)
Manual Transmission 86-87-
Part number 03 34 078
