Steve, I had the exact same problem with my 87 900S. I took apart the
little rocker switch on the console and found that one of the the three
thin copper arms was completely eaten away. The inside of the switch was
also coated with a sticky substance (hmmm, makes me think about all those
stories of Coke dissolving things left in it...) A jumper wire verified
that all was well except the switch. A new switch did the trick. One of
the few Saab repairs that can be accomplished for less than $10.00!
