DI Cassettes

The DI cassette in my car has been replaced a year back, the current
cassette is red in color. I have read several articles on premature
failure on early cassettes. I also have spoken with a Saab mechanic who
told that the latest generation cassette is black in color and more
robust in structure.

How many generations are there and how can I check which one my car is
using. How can I check which model my car uses. If I had a problem with
the cassette, could I replace it with the black one?
