Wet Front End Noise

Dear Saab people,

I have scanned briefly the resources but found no explanation to the noise
I hear from time to time. It is a 95' NG 900 2.3S (84,000 miles). The noise
(metallic clunk) comes from the front (suspension or driveshaft I guess)
when hitting a path hole or even driving over small bumps (does not always
happen when driving twice over the same hole). It is very seldom that I
hear it when it is dry. Typically, it occurs when driving in the rain or on
wet road. Also when driving a very long distance, say 500 miles. Otherwise,
no problems at all. The car drives smooth, accelerates OK, and I cannot
reproduce this noise on 'demand'.
I have looked under the car, drove circles to check CV joints,
asked at a garage when doing 80,000 service. Nothing. Of course, in the
garage they could not reproduce it, it was not raining. They say driveshaft
gaiters, CV joints, suspension is OK (nothing has been touched so far, i.e.
more than 80,000 miles).
I am about to take off for two weeks and cover up to 2000 miles
(not always close, or mostly far away from a Saab garage) and feel a bit
uncomfortable about it. Anybody had a similar problem?

Thanks for help!

General comment about NG 900.
In spite of 'bad press' about early NG's I wish any car I owned, had so few
problems and virtually no major problems and major repairs, mostly normal
replacement, although they could not believe in the garage that my front
brakes (both discs and pads) were never renewed. Rear is a different story.

We think about replacement but looks like will wait a bit longer as the new
9-3 is only sedan and our second baby is on her/his way. Hope that the 9-3
Wagon comes soon. 9-5 is an option of course but is it worth the extra
money, especially that the trunk of 9-5 Wagon is smaller than the 9-3
hatchback!

Zig
