Accident

The ice and snow of eastern canada has claimed my beloved 86 900s 2 door
sedan. We went off the road in an off camber turn, nose first into a 5
foot ditch then the car flipped on it's end, landing on the roof. The back
window was broken and the car filled (75% filled) with snow. I found it
difficult to reach the ignition, while in the seat belt hanging upside
down. I initially couldn't get out because the car landed in about 6 feet
of snow. Some fellas stopped and started digging me out. Other than some
stiffness in the front of my neck and aches in my left appendages I am OK
(well a little spot in my 'heart' is broken). I had it flat bedded to my
garage, disconnected the battery and checked the level of the engine oil
(it's OK).

In some reflection a number of factors contributed to this in no
particular order
1. driving too fast - although I had just been passed by two other
vehicles minutes prior and I estimate my speed to have been
~85kph(~52mph). The road conditions up to the corner were reasonable,
hence my driving at the speed limit. In the dry this same corner is
easily done at 110kph(70mph)
2. Slippy road conditions - snow and ice had formed in the corner, when
the salt trucks came by I think they didn't put enough down to melt it
all, the water the was left mixed with the snow made that it even more
slippy
3. I was wearing big heavy snow boots, I had no sense of the peddles and
I have had problems driving with those boots before.
4. I have Nokian NRW that are almost spent - this, I had decided would
be their last winter although they are not yet to the wear bars
5. design of the turn - off camber with a crest, need I say more? No
signs for the turn, although it's a few minutes from home and I drive
the road all the time
6. Cruise control - I use this a lot. I went into the turn notice I was
loosing grip in the front, my feet started moving I got the cruise off
and the back end had started to swing out all ready.

So I have some questions:

The car was flipped for about half an hour, what if anything do I need
to do before trying the engine?

The damage includes both doors, dent in the roof, rear window, and front
right corner light and lower fender. The hood, trunk and doors close OK
and are not out of alignment. The insurance will write it off because
of it's age, but is this car worth salvaging? I understand the 2 door
sedan was rather rare...

There are lot's of great parts on this car too, I could (gulp) use
it/sell it as a (big gulp) parts car. What has been your experiences in
selling a parts car?

Thank you everyone for reading this, and thanks to those who reply.

A final quick note, I apologize to those who replied regarding the free
trailer hitch, I meant to reply personally to the 30+ who expressed an
interest, I haven't done that yet. It went to the 3rd person who
contacted me.

Best Regards

Andy de Boer
