The EXH light is controlled by an odometer switch. An extra cable
runs from the speedo down to this device, mounted to the passenger
side of the firewall. On 8v motors, it counts to 30,000, then
switches the light on, on 16v motors, it will count to 60,000 (heated
oxygen sensor).

The purpose of the light is to tell you to change the oxygen sensor.

Later 900s, 9000s, etc, don't use this. The ECU switches on a light
if it detects a problem.

You can usually reach the switch by snaling your hand up from below,
feeling 'round for the cable (it feels distinctly different from the
wires), and the bitton to reset the counter is right next to the
cable in the device.

If this doesn't put out the light, then it may well be a short
somewhere. But the majority of the 'disappearing wiring harness'
problems happen under the hood, not behind the firewall...
