Re: Clearing TRIONIC Check-Engine Codes & Erratic Return-to-Idle

According to the factory Trionic manual, if you disconnect the Trionic
from power for 5+ minutes (it may be 15+... don't have it here) it
will lose the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and thus reset the Check Engine
light. This will also lose the adjustments that have been made to the
fuel maps. I don't know how ugly the result of losing the maps will
be, but the engine will eventually re-learn the adaptations it needs.
I believe that that afterwards you should drive under a variety of
conditions so the Trionic can gain experience over the whole
performance band. (For the turbo versions, there are specific
procedures to speed up the adaptation; they don't seem to apply to the
normally aspirated versions).

I've also experienced a case (in my 95 Aero) where the Check Engine
light cleared itself after a week of it on (five blink codes, implying
throttle position sensor).

For reference, section 2.7 covers Trionic engine management and only
costs $27.

Regarding the erratic return to idle, since your Check Engine light is
on, the oxygen sensor would be highly suspect. I believe that a
simple meter test can verify its operation - with the engine warm,
measure the sensor voltage output against ground; it should waver
around 1.0v - however, I've never performed the test myself.
