Actually I don't know, but was just thinking the topic.

I do know that there is no 5th gear sensor or the like. The light is
turned on or off by a signal from the main engine computer. The ECU
compares the speed of the car, the speed of the engine (RPMs), and the
throttle position to determine whether to light the upshift indicator. If
you have a accurate throttle foot you can actually get it to light while
coasting in neutral by finding the right RPMs. (The things we do to
entertain ourselves in stop and go traffic :))

I wonder if it may be disabled by using the TechII or ISAT tools. Perhaps
one of our expert SAAB shops (such as Scanwest or Townsend Imports) would
know. I'd pay a few bucks to have someone unprogram this 'feature' for
me...
