For general information, EZ-Pass transponders transmit in the 900 Mhz
range. Location, and windshield composition can indeed create a
problem. I have had EZ-Pass since commuting across the Tappan Zee
Bridge in the mid 90s. Whatever car I had the little white box
installed on, it worked perfectly in NY. Whether the Thruway or the
MTA Bridges. Then, after the Garden State Parkway started it, I was
only getting a 40% success rate on the GSP. Part of the problem was
the proximity to my Valentine 1 Radar Detector. Shutting that off,
the EZ-Pass worked every time in NJ. Hewever, the transponder worked
fine in NY and Mass (FastLane is compatible), on the same weekend!

I gave up and got the license plate transponder. I've got two of
them, and I keep an inside one in case I travel with someone else or
in another car.
