Mine would be the opposite. Nearly empty to minimize fuel spillage. You'll
release pretty much the same amount of fumes from a near-full tank as from a
near-empty one.

FWIW, I wouldn't mess with it if the only problem is not reading higher than
3/4. It's not an accurate/linear instrument anyway, and as long as the
low-fuel warning light comes on consistently, with roughly the same amount
of fuel remaining every time, I'd leave it alone. Another thing to do is to
reset the trip meter at every fill up, and keep an eye on the miles driven
before the warning light comes on. If you drive in the same environment
most of the time, this distance won't change very much.
